Job description
Client's is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Technical Writer to author and maintain BaseOps technical documentation to support technicians/engineers with managing our autonomous vehicle fleet.
In this role, you will work cross-functionally to define and obtain the necessary information for the successful delivery of the required service documentation.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience as an automotive repair or diagnostic technician as well as 2+ years of experience with technical documentation in the automotive field, including proficiency with topic-based writing concepts and markup language.
As a Technical Writer, you will:
- Create and update technical documentation associated with the following:
- Service removal/replacement and vehicle maintenance procedures
- Diagnostics/troubleshooting and wiring harness information
- Software programming and post-repair bring-up
- Fleet upgrade and rework procedures
- Technical service bulletins, first responder documentation, and vehicle owner's manual
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as an automotive repair or diagnostic technician
- 2+ years of experience with technical documentation in the automotive field (e.g., documenting automotive engineering processes and procedures related to vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, programming, etc.)
- Experience with topic-based writing concepts and markup language (e.g., HTML, XML, or DITA XML)
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written/verbal communication skills and cross-functional teamwork skills
- Exhibit high attention to detail and safety acumen
- Ability to multitask and manage workload to achieve project deliverable deadlines
- Self-starter and ability to approach the role with a can-do, team player attitude
Bonus Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a focus in Automotive Technology or Technical Writing
- 5+ years of experience as an automotive repair or diagnostic technician
- 2+ years of experience as a technical writer in the automotive field
- Automotive OEM service manual authoring experience
- Experience with any of these software programs: Oxygen XML (DITA), JIRA, Github, Confluence, Adobe Creative Suite, or CATIA 3DX

Commitment: This is a full-time, 6-month contract position staffed via Client's. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
