Responsibilities
- Own the overall vision and direction of the Macy's Enterprise Design System
- Lead and develop a team of expert system designers, bringing the highest standard of design practices.
- Collaborate closely with internal team members, as well as UI Engineers, Product Designers, and Product Managers to drive system creation, adoption, and technical implementation initiatives.
- Lead design system projects from beginning to end and establishes meaningful metrics and success criteria to ensure consistency of user experience.
- Bring the highest level of design standards and practices and emphasizes the importance of modern design aesthetic.
- Provide creative direction and mentorship to team members.
- Bring operational knowledge and workflow excellence to managing the team including resource decisions.
- Clearly communicate design rationale to product teams and internal stakeholders
Makes decisions based on user research as well as design experience. - Work closely with other UX leaders to strengthen design processes and culture and facilitate a design system centered approach to building experiences in every area of our organization
- Create and deliver clear roadmaps for delivering components, patterns, templates and other Design System related work
- Investigate, evaluate and recommend new and emerging designs, patterns and usability techniques, technologies and process improvement methodologies
- Presents team best practices, case studies and success stories both internally and externally
- Define the governance process to ensure project teams adhere to Design Systems
- Partner with IT to create and maintain a global CSS
- Contribute to the planning, preparation, and analysis of user testing - both for value proposition and usability
- Design across different devices/platforms (desktop, phone, app, iOS/Android, etc.).
- Effectively collaborate with executives, managers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to define, conceptualize, and design user-facing products
- Serves as a subject matter expert and thought leader on user experience design across the company (including assigned channel, the CX organization, and other organizations), as well as the broader design community (e.g
presenting at conferences, writing articles, teaching, etc.). - Mentors user experience designers across the company
Qualifications
- 10 years of experience designing and/or building UX solutions for software, web applications and/or mobile native apps.
- 5 years of experience mentoring and leading other design professionals
- BA/BS in Design Required, preferably in UX related fields of HCI, Industrial Design, Product Design, Architecture or Graphic Design. Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience leading a Design System framework.
- Previous experience building, launching and maintaining Enterprise Design Systems.
- Demonstrated ability with recruiting, hiring and retaining multidisciplinary design teams.
- Demonstrated ability leading designers and/or engineers, with a proven track record of building and managing strong, effective design teams.
- Experience with "system level” thinking as it pertains to components, patterns and styles.
- Demonstrated ability in working with a variety of design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, Axure, InVision and Sketch.
- Demonstrated ability with common technical frameworks like React or Angular.
- Demonstrated ability to design digital products, services and experiences for effective and efficient human use.
- Demonstrated ability in influencing product direction through a deep understanding of user needs and usability.
- Strong verbal and written communicator with all levels of business leaders; ability to influence and cultivate strong relationships with key business stakeholders and executives in the organization.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, at various stages of their development.
- Demonstrated ability in collaborating with multiple disciplines, such as product, engineering and data analysis
- Advanced knowledge of the end-to-end iterative product design process, including how to use wireframing, prototyping, user testing and high-fidelity visuals to communicate design intent
- Demonstrated knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including planning, architectural design, development, testing and deployment
- Demonstrated ability in best practices, key findings and evidence-based rationalization of UX design decisions
- Knowledge of balancing human behaviors, technology capabilities and business needs, to deliver measurable design solutions
