UX Researcher

Job Title: UX Researcher
Location: Mountain View, CA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Months with possible extension
Pay Rate: $40 - $45/hr.
Employment Type: Contract

What You'll Do:
Plan and conduct 6 UXR KPI studies consisting of 30 users to support Pixel AI KPIs, Tablet KPIs, AR KPIs and Hearables KPIs.

AR
Establish a thermal comfort limit for AR smartglasses for continuous contact gradual thermal exposure (n = 48 users)
Establish a thermal comfort limit for AR smartglasses continuous contact rapid thermal exposure (n = 48 users)

Pixel AI
Establish AI input user interaction latency requirements across multiple use cases to support critical decision for AI in RAM memory, Flash memory, or split AI model across RAM and Flash through at least 2 user studies

Tablet
Establish tablet trackpad falsing accuracy KPI requirement
Establish tablet trackpad user interaction latency KPI requirement

Hearables
Establish Hearables Connectivity, Latency, Telephony, Spatial Audio KPI requirements

Responsibilities:
Plan and facilitate in-person studies investigating KPIs and measuring baseline usability for hearables, wearables, AI-involved applications, and smart home devices
Execute studies examining on-head detection KPIs for audio wearables and devices, including measuring in-ear, latency, sensitivity, sound quality, gesture, and voice-related metrics
Run studies exploring new features with hearables to support development
Analyze and compile results to recommend launch targets and provide empirical data to inform engineering teams to make high-impact decisions

Bachelor's degree in human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in an applied research setting, or similar.
Experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.).
Relevant product research experience, either in an end-to-end, usability, or generative setting.

Preferred qualifications:
3 years of experience conducting UX research on products and working with executive leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
3 years of experience managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization.
Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
Experience in a variety of product spaces, applied research and/or academic settings.
Proficiency in communicating user research findings with cross-functional partners to drive impact.
